Aim:

To assess the role citizen science can have in enhancing the social equity in urban planning filling the gap related to the integration of social equity in urban planning objectives and the role citizen science can fulfill in increasing it. This represents a significant contribution since there is only little research both related to the integration of the social equity principles in urban planning and in citizen science.

Objectives:

O1. To establish a conceptual framework for assessing the role of citizen science in increasing the social equity in urban planning
O2. To assess the potential of enhancing social equity in urban planning through public participation in the administrative process
O3. To explore the potential of enhancing social equity in urban planning through environmental activism
O4. To evaluate the potential enhancement of social equity through citizen science in different areas of urban planning
O5. To develop a conceptual model for promoting best practices for enhancing social equity in urban planning through citizen science
