Workshop: Making urban nature count!

Centre for Environmental Research and Impact Studies in partnership with Society for Urban Ecology – South Eastern Europe Chapter, Research Institute of University of Bucharest – ICUB, IALE Romania, and Romanian Society of Geography – Bucharest branch are inviting you to attend the workshop – Making urban nature count! to be held in Bucharest, September 8-10, 2022. The workshop will be a part of CIVIS HUB 4 meeting Bucharest, – Nature in Cities, Territories, and Mobility, September 8 – 11th, 2022.

The workshop aims to cover topics related to the human-nature interactions in urban fabric: typologies, drivers, consequences, feedback loops, beneficiaries, or perceptions.

September 8th, 2022 (University of Bucharest, Faculty of Geography)
9.00 – 9.15 – Opening session (Vice Rector of University of Bucharest, CIVIS responsible of University of Bucharest, Dean of the Faculty of Geography)
9.15 – 9.30 – Short report of CIVIS – HUB 4 activities (Fanny Sbaraglia)
9.30 – 11.00 – Roundtable CIVIS projects in HUB4 – Lessons to learn for the CIVIS 2 (10 minutes for each project)
11.00 – 11.15 – Coffee break
11.15 – 12.00 – Students experiences in CIVIS – HUB 4 (3-4 presentations)
12.00 – 13.00 – Meeting of CIVIS HUB4 groups for establishing further activities.
13.00 – 13.30 – HUB 4 Declaration related to CIVIS 2 (challenges for CIVIS2, ambitions, approaches)
13.30 – 15.00 – Lunch

9.00 – 13.00 – Urban nature between the city walls (practical application in Văcărești Nature Park – Bellu Cemetery – Carol Park)
13.00 – 15.00 – Lunch
15.00 – 18.00 – Memory of place – investments and changes in urban areas
• Parliament Palace and surroundings
• Basarab bridge – a driver of change
19.00 – 20.00 – Walking tour of Bucharest historic center.

September 10th, 2022 – Constanța city (with the support of Department of Geography from University Ovidius Constanța)
9.00 – 18.00 – Urban nature in coastal cities – Constanța city in one day (Constanta harbor, Constanta Old Center, Museum of Navy, Mamaia beaches).
We expect your contributions for these sections which can provide a significant support for debates in urban ecology. In each section 1-2 PhD students can present a short talk about the topic.

Registration and fees
There are no fees for participation at the workshop. Only the fieldtrip in Constanța on September 10th, 2022 requires participant fees (maximum 50 euro).
