Our team publishes regularly in high-impact international journals, including Science, Nature Communications, Nature Ecology & Evolution, Ecology Letters, Conservation Biology, Journal of Environmental Management, Land Use Policy, Landscape and Urban Planning, Urban Forestry & Urban Greening, Environmental Impact Assessment Review, Ecological Indicators, PLoS ONE, and PeerJ. Recent topics include brown bear management in Romania, saproxylic beetle conservation under climate scenarios, invasive species distribution modelling, Natura 2000 governance networks, environmental impact assessment quality, translocated European bison ecology, and nature-based solutions for Romanian cities.
The team authors research monographs, textbooks, and professional references. Flagship titles include the Iron Gates Natural Park monograph (2021 Romanian, 2022 English, Culturae Hereditatem), a comprehensive synthesis of three decades of fieldwork in southwest Romania, and the 4th edition of Fundamentals of Conservation Biology (Hunter, Gibbs & Popescu, Wiley-Blackwell, 2021), a standard textbook used in conservation curricula worldwide. Other recent books address green solutions for Romanian cities (Soluții verzi pentru orașele din România, 2020), environmental conflict management (Managementul conflictelor de mediu, 2015), landscape connectivity in protected areas (2023), and the long-running Atlas of Romania series.
Team members contribute chapters to internationally recognised volumes from Springer, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, University of Chicago Press, Pelagic Publishing, and IGI Global. Cristian I. Ioja co-edited the Springer volume Making Green Cities: Concepts, Challenges and Practice (2019), which includes several CCMESI-authored chapters on urban green infrastructure, protected areas, biocultural diversity, and environmental conflict. Recent contributions cover invasive species management, the Lower Danube and Iron Gates, amphibian conservation in Romania, and social network approaches to environmental governance.
